PAY IN NEW MEXICO LAGS NATIONAL RATES
A recently released government study continues to find
that wages in New Mexico trail those of the United
States. The federal government report finds New Mexico
ranks 41st among all states with overall wages at just
over 80% of the national average. This works out to
$29,431 annual pay for all industries versus $36,764 for
the United States in 2002, the latest data available.
In no industrial sector did New Mexico pay rate exceed
the national average; the closest were semiconductor
manufacturing and federal government workers. In some
sectors such as educational services, company
management, information services, and finance &
insurance the annual rate of pay in New Mexico was less
than 75% of the national average.
