NEW MEXICO JOB SHORT-TERM FORECAST POSITIVE
Job growth in New Mexico during the remainder of 2004
and for all of 2005 is expected to exceed the national
average according to a report released by the University
of New Mexico. This continues a pattern in recent years
of the state job growth exceeding national averages.
According to a mid year study employment growth should
increase 2.2% in 2005, exceeding the national rate of
2.0%. This would mean about 18,000 additional jobs.
Sectors with the most job growth are expected to be
health services, highway and industrial building
construction, manufacturing, oil and gas mining, and
state and local government. Manufacturing areas expected
to increase significantly are aircraft and bus
production.
